On April 6, 2025, a harrowing incident unfolded in Brooklyn, New York, when a 49-year-old man attacked four children with a meat cleaver inside a residence. The victims, aged 8, 11, 13, and 16, sustained serious injuries but are expected to survive. The suspect, identified as Long Qian Chen, was shot by responding NYPD officers and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The attack occurred in a home located in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn. An 11-year-old girl managed to call 911, reporting that she and her siblings had been stabbed by their uncle. Despite not knowing her exact address, emergency services were able to locate the residence using advanced technology.
Upon arrival, officers heard screams from inside the apartment. They forced entry and encountered Chen near the entrance, holding a blood-covered meat cleaver. Despite multiple commands to drop the weapon, Chen advanced toward the officers, prompting them to discharge their firearms. Chen was struck and subsequently transported to the hospital.
Inside the apartment, officers found four girls with severe slash and stab wounds. All were treated at the scene and then transported to Maimonides Medical Center. A fifth child, a boy, escaped the attack and sought help from a neighbor, who provided shelter until authorities arrived.
Two knives were recovered from the scene, including the meat cleaver used in the attack. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the assault. Family members have indicated that Chen had a history of mental illness, including schizophrenia, and had previously been hospitalized for psychiatric issues.
