A quiet Saturday night in downtown Waynesboro turned violent when an adult male was shot near the intersection of Arch Avenue and West Main Street. The Waynesboro Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 11:40 p.m. and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound in a parking lot.
The unidentified man was initially transported to Augusta Health, then later transferred to UVA Health, where he remains in stable condition. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or any details regarding a possible motive.
Although law enforcement officials have not provided information about a suspect or suspect vehicle, they currently believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no immediate threat to the public.
As of now, the Waynesboro Police Department has not made any arrests and has released few additional details. Detectives are actively investigating the case and urge anyone with information to come forward by calling (540) 942-6786.
For victims of violent crime, the aftermath of a shooting can be life-altering—not just physically but emotionally and financially. Victims often face:
Extensive medical bills
Loss of income or ability to work
Emotional trauma
Long-term rehabilitation
While criminal investigations are critical for public safety, they often don’t provide direct relief for victims or their families. That’s where civil legal action can step in.
At Haggard Crime Victim Attorney, a division of The Haggard Law Firm, we represent individuals and families affected by gun violence—including cases stemming from negligent security, public shootings, and premises liability failures. If the shooting occurred in a location that lacked adequate lighting, security cameras, or trained personnel, the property owner or business may be held legally liable under Virginia law.
Victims of shootings may be able to file a civil lawsuit to pursue compensation for:
Medical expenses
Lost wages and future earnings
Pain and suffering
Emotional distress
Permanent disability or disfigurement
Even if no suspect has been arrested, civil cases can proceed independently based on evidence of negligence or dangerous conditions. Our experienced legal team can investigate the circumstances of your case, preserve evidence, and consult with security experts to build a strong claim.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a shooting incident in Virginia, don’t wait for criminal charges to be filed. The sooner you speak with an experienced attorney, the more time you’ll have to secure crucial evidence and build your case.
Michael Haggard, Esq., and his team at Haggard Crime Victim Attorney are nationally recognized for representing victims of violent crime. We are committed to fighting for your rights and helping you seek justice, accountability, and compensation.
We offer free consultations, and you pay nothing unless we recover compensation on your behalf.
