Fox Sports has officially parted ways with Mark Sanchez following a stabbing incident that left the former quarterback hospitalized and facing criminal charges. “We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network,” a spokesperson for the network confirmed, adding that there would be no further comment at this time.
Sanchez, once the starting quarterback for the New York Jets and most recently a game analyst for Fox, had been paired with play-by-play announcer Adam Amin during the first four weeks of the NFL season.
According to a court affidavit, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. on October 4, outside the Westin Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. Sanchez, allegedly intoxicated, approached a 69-year-old truck driver who was parked at the hotel loading dock collecting used cooking oil.
Officials say Sanchez told the driver he couldn’t be parked there before becoming aggressive and grabbing the man, throwing him toward a nearby wall. The victim, fearing for his safety, used pepper spray on Sanchez. When Sanchez didn’t back down, the driver stabbed him in self-defense.
Sanchez suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was later charged with felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury. His defense attorney in Indianapolis has declined to comment publicly on the matter.
Mark Sanchez’s brother, Nick Sanchez, issued a statement on behalf of the family. “While the recent news — and its timing — is understandably disappointing, our priority remains his continued healing and recovery,” the statement said. “Mark deeply values his time at FOX and the exceptional colleagues he’s had the privilege to work with.”
The family also shared that Sanchez is mourning the loss of a close friend during the same period, adding to the emotional toll of the incident.
In the wake of Sanchez’s departure, Fox Sports has announced former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will step in to work alongside Adam Amin. Brees was previously part of NBC’s NFL broadcasting team.
Sanchez’s case is ongoing, and he has not released a personal statement about the stabbing or the charges against him. The former quarterback retired from the NFL in 2019 and quickly transitioned into broadcasting, building a promising second career — now abruptly halted.
When a person is harmed in a violent encounter—whether by a known individual or a public figure like Mark Sanchez—survivors have the right to pursue civil justice in addition to any criminal proceedings.
Being stabbed, assaulted, or injured in a violent act can result in lasting trauma. The criminal justice system may hold the perpetrator accountable, but a civil lawsuit can provide financial compensation for medical bills, emotional distress, lost wages, and long-term damages.
