Grand Valley State University (GVSU) campus police are actively searching for a suspect involved in a reported stabbing near a dormitory on the Allendale campus. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, August 31, behind the Kistler Living Center, according to a university alert.
GVSU’s Department of Public Safety confirmed that one male individual sustained minor injuries during a physical altercation that broke out in the area. A second individual reported being stabbed, but did not exhibit injuries consistent with a stabbing, and no victims required treatment beyond first aid.
According to campus officials, the suspect was wearing a ski mask and was last seen running from the area. The identity of the suspect remains unknown, and no arrests have been made at this time.
GVSU issued an alert to students early Sunday morning notifying them of the incident. In response, campus police have increased patrols and monitoring efforts to maintain student safety, particularly near residence halls and other high-traffic student areas.
GVSU’s Chief of Public Safety, Daniel Lindstrom, released a statement affirming that the university is working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify the person of interest and to implement enhanced safety protocols across the campus.
"Campus police and other law enforcement are investigating to identify the person of interest and taking action to ensure safety on campus with increased patrols, enforcement, and monitoring,” Lindstrom said.
The ongoing investigation has prompted a heightened law enforcement presence at the Allendale campus, especially near Kistler and surrounding dormitories. Students are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact GVSU campus police at (616) 331-3255 or Silent Observer at 877-887-4368.
