Authorities in Statesboro are actively investigating a shooting that left a male victim—believed to be in his late teens—injured after a confrontation Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on November 25 at the Southern Villas apartment complex, located on the 1800 block of Chandler Road, directly across from Greek Row and within close distance to Smoke Crave.
According to the Statesboro Police Department (SPD), officers, along with Bulloch County EMS and Georgia Southern University Public Safety, responded immediately to the scene after receiving 911 reports of shots fired. Witness accounts and initial police findings indicate that the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute between two males.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders transported him to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, where he was reported to be conscious and breathing.
SPD Chief Mike Broadhead stated that the suspected shooter fled on foot immediately after firing the shots. The suspect was described as a Black male wearing all-black clothing and was last seen leaving the complex at a rapid pace. Investigators also believe the suspect may have later left the area in a white Chevrolet Camaro, though that detail remains under review.
Given Southern Villas’ close proximity to the Georgia Southern University campus, the university issued an Eagle Alert minutes after the shooting, urging students to avoid Chandler Road, Southern Villas, and Plant Drive until the scene was secured.
“Statesboro Police Department is investigating an OFF CAMPUS shooting incident at Southern Villas. Please avoid the area… The suspected shooter is a black male, wearing all black clothing, who fled the area on foot.”
Georgia Southern’s Public Safety Department worked alongside SPD to increase patrols, secure the perimeter, and monitor potential escape routes. Chief Broadhead later confirmed that the immediate threat had passed and that officers had fully secured the scene.
SPD has emphasized the importance of community assistance in solving violent crime. Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the dispute, recorded video, or saw the suspect fleeing to contact police immediately.
